There are some things you can do to protect your home, business or personal property when the rising water starts to develop. A lot of flooding happens in underground areas so build barriers around window wells. Keep possessions up off the floor and consider raising your washer, drier and water heater. Be aware of where your electrical, gas and water shut offs are located. A survival kit is always a good idea-food, water, medicine, etc. One more thing-a flood can happen anywhere. You don't have to be next to a body of water to experience flood waters. Everybody should consider buying flood insurance.
